Beauty Bag: CVS & Publix

When I was thinking about starting this (more) personal blog, I wanted to include a section that would show you guys all the fun stuff I pick up during my shopping trips. I noticed many of my favorite bloggers were doing the same, and I got ideas about what products I wanted based on what they purchased and reviewed well.

Plus, you guys KNOW what a great feeling it is to find some fun items during a shopping trip--you just want to share it with the world!

I had been dying to check out the displays for Salma Hayek's new beauty line Nuance so I went directly to my local CVS.  I had been so excited to touch the products and see what the entire line included, that I accidentally passed the section entirely!

This is what the display might look
like at your local CVS.
In case any of you start to make that same mistake, there is a piece laminated ad that sticks out with a photo of the Mexican beauty. Be forewarned, the make-up items are in a different section than the shampoo or the face/body products.  CVS currently has most items on a 'buy one get one 1/2 off!"

I have product coming in for review so I didn't make a grab for anything from Nuance just yet. But I was instantly attracted to the cover stick, the translucent powder, and the delicious lipstick shades. Watch for my reviews soon!

Ok so on to the items I did purchase......

My old razor was so over miles that it was in definite need of a replacement.  So I grabbed the Venus Spa Breeze which has shave gel built into the cartridge.  I've never used a 2-in-1 razor so I will let you know how that works out in a future review.

Two of the products I was dying to pick up was a grey nail polish and some kind of decorative pens or lacquer.  Everyone has been reviewing Essie's Power Clutch (which I love) so I decided to try out a grey from a different brand.

I grabbed Confetti Nail Color in Lonesome Dove (002) from CVS and KISS Nail Artist lacquers in black, silver, and glitter from Publix.  These were a favorite because they include fun stencils to play with!

You absolutely could not use this specific lacquer (Confetti) if you wanted to use just one coat.  During the first round of application the color looked streaky, but it vastly improved during the second coat.

Please don't judge my quickie paint job, I wanted to show you guys what the shade looked like.  When I try out the decorative paints, I will post an update.

At my local supermarket, I grabbed inm's Out the Door fast drying top coat to sample. I put one layer of it over Confetti's Lonesome Dove. In about a minute, my nails already felt like they were dry. I will continue to use this product and let you guys know how it worked out.

The next item I was super excited about was NYC's Cheek Glow in 'Riverside Rose (651). I would never normally buy a blush so close to my own skin color but I saw this fabulous tutorial the other day on contouring that inspired me to purchase one.

The video suggested I used an angled blush brush so I'm eagerly trying to find a suitable brush to give this technique a try.

No brainers for me were CoverGirl's NatureLuxe gloss balm in spice (270) and CoverGirl's shineblast in firecracker (875). The gloss balm gives me a nice soft color with enough shine for daytime events or a quick touch-up while the shineblast hooks me up at night!

I put it on over my lipsticks to give myself a little extra boost!

Have you guys tried out any of these products??

  2. I have a Venus razor and I LOVE it. Makes shaving much faster and it's very smooth. Of course, replacement blades are a bit more expensive, but I think it's definitely worth it.

  3. Thanks for your review of the Venus Kristin! I tried out my Venus yesterday and loved it too!

It's great not having to use shave gel separately. Razor refills are generally expensive and if it saves me from buying shave gel, it might be worth it.
