Healthy You, Happy Life!

Watch out boys! I'll be bikini ready in no time!
Have you ever reached a moment in your life where you've felt you aren't living up to your potential? It's so easy to get lost in the day-to-day that you stop taking care of yourself. I know this first hand because that's what I did. We all have troubles, struggles, and changes that keep our minds occupied that make it so easy for us to settle.

I recently realized that I'm a 30-something year old woman who has just been going through the motions. Hear me out, I'm not here to preach, but I am hoping that I can motivate at least one person to make positive changes in their life.

Without going into all the curveballs I've had thrown at me as of late, I had forgotten how important it is to take care of my body. The type of work I do keeps me either sitting down all day or many times doing my work while laying down. Not only was I doing a disservice to posture, but like many women out there, I learned to be satisfied with a sedentary lifestyle. Meanwhile, I can feel how unhealthy I had become. This was awful on my self esteem and I just learned to make jokes about my weight. If you make a joke about it first, it takes the power away from others doing so right?

As of last week, I weighed in at about 30 pounds over my ideal weight. Mind you, I'm not one of those people that strives to have the perfect body. But feeling good about myself and making sure my body was healthy has now become my biggest focus. For many women out there, maybe their families have taken priority, or their jobs, or any number of factors. But one of the hardest lessons I had to learn was that in order for me to be at my best, I needed to put myself first.

If you've ever thought that this is selfish, you're not alone. But what exactly is wrong with being selfish if it will make you a better person, spouse, mother, employee, boss, etc? That's what I feel  was at the heart of Maria Kang's message when she posted her "What's Your Excuse?" photo on Facebook. Though some called this "fat shaming," I'm not here to do that. I love my curves, I will always have curves, and I don't want to lose my curves! It's about being healthy, feeling good, and accepting that many of us will never have a perfect body and that's ok.

Last week, I started working out with Master Trainer Val Connor at the Fontainebleau Hotel in Miami Beach, Florida. I had been whining about my state of poor health and the extra weight I was carrying for quite some time when the team at the legendary resort told me to put my money where my mouth is and do something about it. I'm currently going into my fourth session with him today and I have already improved tremendously since my first session last week! I've lost 3 lbs by modifying what I eat, and by making time each day to include a little bit of fitness into my life.

Don't get me wrong folks, the struggle is real. I have gotten to where I want to faint, throw up, pass out and give up. But as they say, anything worth having, you'll have to pay a price. This is one post of many to come that will talk about my journey and I encourage any of you thinking about doing the same, are already doing the same, or have already done so and want to offer advice, to join in the conversation. You can follow along on social media by using the hashtag #operationbikinisummer or by tagging me @SocialRosy on Twitter and Instagram.

For any locals interested in booking a trainer at the Fontainebleau, you don't need to be a guest. (Yeah, I had no idea either!) To learn more, check out this link or call (305) 674-4772 or (866) 750-4772. Your sessions include access to the Lapis Spa Water Journeys, resort poolscape, plus validated parking for the day. Going for a refreshing swim after a challenging workout is exactly what your muscles need.

Good luck on your journey!

And I’m not just talking about weight loss. My energy is much lighter, my stress is down, and I feel happier. I love waking up the next day feeling sore as sh*t. It reminds me that I did it! I stayed committed to me. #operationbikinisummer in full effect!
