Oprah's "The Life You Want" Weekend Changed My Life

Oprah Winfrey and her trailblazers Deepak Chopra, Elizabeth Gilbert, Iyanla Vanzant, and Rob Bell visited Miami recently as part of "The Life You Want Weekend" and the experience was more than I could have imagined. With dates left in San Jose, California and Seattle, Washington coming soon, I can't recommend attending enough.

Growing up, I always knew I wanted to be a journalist. But I had the privilege of growing up in a time where women like Barbara Walters, Katie Couric, Diane Sawyer, and Oprah Winfrey had been paving the way for someone like me for many years. So today, as I write for so many respected digital properties, I silently thank them for never giving up their dreams so that one day so many of us could follow in their footsteps.

As you can imagine, when Olay reached out to invite me to this once-in-a-lifetime event, led by one of my journalistic idols Oprah Winfrey, I nearly yelled out my acceptance! The experience was pretty overwhelming to be surrounded by so many powerful women both on stage and in the audience. Lots of tears and laughter were shared that weekend, as well as many new friendships made.

The reason I say this weekend changed my life, is because the experience helped elevate me to a better place. Many of the nuggets of wisdom shared have made me want to read more, learn more, and be more.

Here are some quotes that really inspired me:

"Every one of us is looking for the same thing. We want to know we matter." --- Oprah Winfrey
"If you're living and breathing, you have a purpose." --- Oprah Winfrey
"Stop trying to squeeze yourself into things that don't fit--- in life." --- Iyanla Vanzant
"The life you want is on the other side the labor pains it takes to birth it." --- Iyanla Vanzant
"If you make it through the past, you passed." --- Iyanla Vanzant

As you can tell, Iyanla Vanzant became the voice that spoke to me the loudest. I've already bought two of her books and I can't wait to learn more from her.

A big thank you to Olay, Orgullosa, and the P&G Family of Products for inviting me! It's great to see brands that I love and trust for most of my life support such a motivational project.

Here are some of my favorite moments from the weekend:
