5 Ways To Relax in 2015

We're hours away from welcoming 2015 and so many of us are pondering our resolutions; how to make the coming year better than any other. With all the stress we have from the daily grind, I want to share some tips to help you relax in the new year.

1. Meditation- Do you find yourself full of anxiety or with trouble sleeping? I've been using a really cool app called Digipill (Available for iPhone and Android) both day and night. They've had a sale each day since Christmas on different "pills," which are audio files to aid with meditation. I've tried a lot of other ones before and the worst thing was how bad the audio was recorded. This one is top notch and if you hurry, you can get "Trance Tripping" for 1/2 price today only.

If you rather not have the audio cues, there are plenty of other ways to meditate. Decide how long you'd like to meditate for, it can be just five minutes or an hour--- it's totally up to you. Find a peaceful place where you won't be disturbed and stretch out before getting into a comfortable position. Check out this great article to help you with your breathing, mental imagery, and mantras.

2. Plan a vacation- Whether you stay close to home or plan a trip abroad, you need to allow yourself a break from the daily grind. I took a cruise this year with Princess Cruises (read more about it here) and it was a great and affordable option. Not only do you not have to worry about being bored on a flight, but you can drink and enjoy your time as the captain and his crew take care of the driving.

Even if you decide to stay home, make sure you spend time doing the things that you love. Read a book, hit the beach, or visit areas that you've never been before. You can even go and visit a spa for a facial, massage, or manicure/pedicure.

3. Get off the internet and meet friends in real life!- With social media sites like Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, it's easy to disconnect from our loved ones offline. Pick up the phone, don't text, and call up a friend and make plans to spend real time together. Have them over for dinner or invite them to a picnic.

No social media site can ever replace the happiness you'll feel seeing their smile instead of an emoji.

4. Exercise - Going for a run or trying out yoga, can be quite relaxing. Sometimes when I find myself with writers block, I go for a run and come back feeling refreshed. I tried out yoga during my cruise and I liked how the stretching made me feel as well.

The key is, find what you like and allow yourself to try new things. You never know if you'll enjoy a bike ride or a walk around your neighborhood. You might even notice the side effect of weight loss or a more toned body. Oh yeah!

5. Adopt a pet- Adopting an animal is one of the most unselfish and kind things you could ever do. BUT it is not a decision to take lightly. Having my furry pals helps me relax on good and bad days because they are so sweet and loving. They do require a lot of love, attention, affection, and money however, so ensure that you are able to provide these before making this commitment.

There are so many lovely shelter pets of all ages looking for a forever home. Check with your local Humane Society for requirements and for an appointment to check out the dogs and cats they have available for adoption.

Have a safe and wonderful New Year's Eve tonight!
