Watch Your Food Portions for Optimal Weight Loss

You know that saying, "You are what you eat"? As I struggle to find the perfect balance between food and exercise for optimal weight loss in the new year, I've learned that it's not only about what you eat, but also how much of it that can tip that scale in your favor.

My first DeliverLean Breakfast

When I decided in December to finally take the bull by the horns and commit to changing the way I view food, I knew it wasn't going to be easy. We live in a world where food and alcohol flows freely and we view the consumption of both as something we do for pleasure. Don't get me wrong; preparing and eating food shouldn't be a daunting task. But you should keep in mind that whatever you do put in your body, is going to directly affect the way your body functions.

I've been quite lax throughout my life about the quality of food I eat. But the older I get, the more difficult it is to ignore the pounds that are adding up and the level of difficulty required to get rid of said pounds. So when a representative from DeliverLean reached out with the opportunity to try their service, I was excited!

On Monday and Wednesday I received meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner for two days and on Friday I received my final meals for the week. I was happy that ahead of my deliveries I was able to alert the staff of allergies or ingredients I didn't like. So a recipe called for zucchini, it was replaced by asparagus--- one of my favorite vegetables!

What surprised me the most about the experience is the size of the portions. I snapped a photo and showed a friend my dinner one night, she was stunned at the amount of rice I was given. She said, "I easily eat at least 2 times that amount of rice for dinner." I'm not sure if it's a Hispanic thing, but we love pairing rice--- and lots of it---with nearly every dish. But by the end of the meal, I was left completely satisfied. 

The other thing the meals pushed me to do was try new dishes and ingredients I had been weary of having in the past. I once had a smoothie that included kale that convinced me I hated the healthy green leaf. But when I tried their "Alaskan Baked Salmon with Sautéed Kale and Roasted Pineapple Coconut Brown Rice," there was no turning back. Hello!? I love kale.

I'm also full of energy and positivity.
