Review: My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2

It has been 14 years since we last saw the Portokalos family but the wait is finally over! "My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2" is in theaters today and it might make you laugh even more than the first one. Who knew that was even possible?

One of my favorite things about "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" was how much it reminded me of my family. Yes, the family featured is Greek, but I've met so many fans of the film who relate to the Portokalos clan even though they are from many different cultures. As a Hispanic, this was definitely the case. So when the announcement was released last year that a sequel was happening I was excited and worried. Would this ruin one of my favorite movies of all time?

Even though I won't tell you any major plot points from "My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2," know that there are a lot of surprises still to be had. I have seen the original so many times that I really felt like I knew these people. But I learned SO much more about many of them in the sequel. Nia Vardalos, who penned the script and stars in it, brought more hilarity and reasons to bring along a few tissues.

What I can say is, this film covers the reality of what happens to married couples when they get comfortable and complacent with their relationships. Many times when children enter the equation or many years have passed, some of the magic can be lost between couples. Sometimes priorities need to be re-evaluated or things could go from bad to worse if you ignore it. It's important to make your partner feel special way past the courting and honeymoon stages.

I can say so many wonderful things about this cast but it's worth mentioning newcomer Elena Kampouris who plays Toula and Ian's daughter Paris. She brings the perfect amount of sweetness, sass, and teenage angst to the role and I look forward to seeing more from her in the future.

Even though I support most sequels if I loved the originals, it's tough to find any that I might possibly love more than the first but this one comes close. "My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2" brings freshness to an old classic and will hopefully inspire Nia to make a third in a lot less time than it took her to make this second installment. The wait was long but totally worth it.

Grab your girls, your family, and anyone you love and watch this hilarious film. There's also a lot of eye candy by way of John Corbett, Louis Mandylor, and the newest addition, John Stamos!

I can't tell you who is getting married, but it will definitely pull on the heartstrings. Opa! Get ready to celebrate!
